Scenario · Spanish and Portuguese
Adverse media
Before signing with a construction firm, the compliance team checks what the press says. It finds four articles that matter and one about a different company with the same name.
Situation. A company is considering hiring a construction firm with projects in Chile and Brazil. No one on the team reads regional or Portuguese-language press every day.
What Serendyp sees. The search combines the name with terms for corruption, fraud, money laundering, court cases, sanctions and environmental or labor violations, in Google News by country and in GDELT. Each article comes with its outlet, date and link, classified by type. Articles about a namesake are visibly discarded.
What gets decided. Ask the construction firm for clarification before signing, add the articles to the counterparty's profile and keep it under monitoring. An article is a sourced indication, not a proven fact.
