Scenario · South Atlantic

Dark fleets at mile 201

Hundreds of lights fish just outside the economic zone. Some switch off their transponders and cross the line.

Situation. A foreign fishing fleet operates on the edge of the exclusive economic zone in the South Atlantic. Some of the vessels are not transmitting AIS.

What Serendyp sees. Sentinel-1 radar detects every vessel, whether it transmits or not. Those that do not identify themselves are flagged as dark, and those that approach or cross the boundary trigger an alert.

What gets decided. Which vessels to intercept or monitor, with what evidence and when, and what to report to the fisheries authority.

What you see

  • Radar detection, with or without AIS
  • Dark vessels flagged
  • Alerts when the boundary is crossed
  • Evidence with date and position
